Williams wins second French Open title

Though Maria, 26, couldn't take a set, the match was actually close and well-fought. But Serena was just a little bit better, winning 6-4 in both sets.
Maria gave it her all, but she could not handle Serena’s overpowering serve and was never able to overtake the iconic tennis player.
For Serena, the win was her second French Open title — she won her first way back in 2002. Overall, she now has 16 major championships.
The June 8 match was probably like a bad case of deja vu for Maria, who has now lost 13 straight matches to Serena.
After winning her semifinal match on June 6, Maria told reporters, “I’d be lying if it doesn't bother me, obviously. I don’t think that it would be a pretty competitive statement if I said I didn't. I would love to change that around.”
Unfortunately for her, she could not buck the trend. Though she did play well at Roland Garros on June 8, Serena is basically her kryptonite — just too strong for her.
Congratulations, Serena! We love watching you make history!
