KUALA LUMPUR: Police believe they have solved 12 robbery and house break-in cases in the city with the arrest of three members of the ‘Heng’ Gang on Sunday and Monday.
Brickfields police chief ACP Sharul Othman Mansor said following the arrests, police also raided two shops – one of which in Berjaya Times Square and the other in Jalan Ipoh – believed to be selling the items stolen by the gang.
He said various stolen items were seized during the raids, including 16 designer bags bearing the luxury fashion labels of Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Chanel, as well as 18 laptop computers.
“Police also seized a Volkswagen and a Toyota Camry car believed to be used by the gang to commit the crimes. The total amount of seizures is RM400,000,” he told a press conference here today.
Commenting further, he said the first arrest was made immediately after a house break-in incident in Taman Bukit Indah, Seri Petaling, on Sunday.
“Following a public tip-off, police managed to detect two suspects traveling in a Volkswagen car near the house and apprehended one of them. The other one, who was driving the car, however, managed to escape,” he said.
He said the second suspect was picked up not far from the scene at 1.30 am the following day, while the third suspect at 4.30 pm at a condominium in Kepong.
“Initial investigations revealed that the three suspects, aged 35 and 36, had numerous criminal records related to drugs, house break-ins and robberies,” he said.
All three suspects have been remanded for five days until tomorrow and further investigations were being done.
Meanwhile, he said police had also taken statements from the owners of the two shops, who were later released under police bail.
