All 260 Malaysians currently in Turkey - including 180 students, are safe - said the Foreign Ministry.
In a statement on Saturday, Wisma Putra confirmed that Malaysians were present in Turkey, which since Friday night had been facing a military coup.
“The Embassy of Malaysia in Ankara confirmed that there are about 260 Malaysians in Turkey, including 180 students. We have been in contact with the Malaysians there and all of them are reported to be safe,” said Wisma Putra.
Friday’s military coup in Turkey saw a section of its military claiming they had seized power from the democratically elected government.
On Saturday afternoon, the coup was declared foiled.
Malaysians requiring consular assistance can contact the embassy in Ankara (+(90)312-4463547) or Wisma Putra (03-88874530/4047).
