KOTA SAMARAHAN: Two university students were killed and another sustained serious injuries when the Perodua Kelisa car they were travelling in crashed into a lorry at a traffic light crossing in front of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) here today.
A Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the crash occurred about 4.10am and all the victims were Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) students at its Kota Samarahan campus.
He said those killed in the crash were Myrna Ejul, 23, and Siti Nurzaineh Zainudin, 25, both from Sandakan, Sabah.
The car driver, Valerie Liynthia Handrew, 23, from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, was seriously injured and sent to the Sarawak Heart Hospital for treatment, he added.
He said the lorry driver, in his 40s, was not injured.
Eight firemen from the Kota Samarahan Fire and Rescue Station, including two members from the EMRS unit, rushed to the scene after receiving a call at 4.17am.
